A trio of alleged contract killers visited Lincoln with the alleged intent to kill a local in Heighington suspected of drugs dealing. Unbeknown to the visitors and at the time of their visit to the home address was that their intended target was under surveillance by the Lincolnshire Police Drugs squad. After shooting the victim a car chase ensued and one suspect was detained. A further two suspects were arrested later. Two other offenders were sentenced to 19 years in prison. The third suspect died in prison whilst on remand.

The case of the Lincoln Axe Murders - a serial killer in the making
In 1991 a murder occurred on Brant Road Lincoln when the body of Fred Maltby was found at this home address. Fred had sustained fatal injuries to his head. Three weeks later a local bookmaker Joe Rylatt was found dead at his shop premises. Both murders were evidentially linked. After a lengthy enquiry and determined police work the offender Dennis Smalley was arrested and convicted . He later died in prison during his sentence in 2005 aged 59. Both murders were committed by the use of an axe by the offender.

Louth Murder by Postal IED (Improvised Explosive Device)
In December 1999 a parcel containing an explosive device was delivered to a flat on Newbridge Hill Louth the home of Stephen Hoggarth. The device was concealed in a minature presentation case of Southern Comfort. Upon being opened by Hoggarth it exploded killing him. After extensive enquiries the individual suspected of the crime David Broddle together with his girlfriend committed suicide in Derbyshire before any arrests could be made.
Misconduct in a Public Office Lincolnshire County Council - William James Speechley
County Councillor William James SPEECHLEY and the Crowland by-pass issue ... County Council Leased William James SPEECHLEY was sentenced to a term of imprisonment after being found guilty at Sheffield Crown Court for an offence of Misconduct in Public Office involving the A1073 road that runs between Crowland and Peterborough after a lengthy trial. All appeals following were dismissed.
